Douglas City is located along the Trinity River outside of Weaverville by about 10 minutes. It has abut 710 residents which makes it a good sized town for Trinity County.
Douglas City is at the junction of Highway 3 and Highway 299 where the Trinity River flows down river from Indian Creek. It is located about 10 minutes east of Weaverville. There are beautiful spots on the river here, and many on private property that can be obtained along Steiner Flat Road. Also see raw land listings. It is often an overlooked town, but its actually fifth in size based on population (approximations over 700 residents now).
If you drive south on Hwy 3 and you'll get to Deerlick Springs and Little Browns Creek, or east on Hwy 299 to Poker Bar you will find three other distinct locations close by and included in the Douglas City listings.
In relationship to other towns, Weaverville is 10 minute drive further west on highway 299. Going east on 299 will take you to Redding, a major town in Shasta County, but only a 45 minute drive. Hayfork is about 30 minutes down highway 3 as well. Highway 3 will continue to Highway 36 and Southern Trinity towns, or to Hyampom Road which goes down into Hyampom Valley. Douglas City has a general store, post office and lodging, including an R.V. and campground on Riverside Drive next to the Trinity River. Past the store and campground down Steiner Flat Road you'll find lots of unspoiled Trinity River frontage with no large highway nearby. There is also an elementary school in Douglas City. Gardening is great here. Douglas City elevation is 2,152 ft above sea level and is situated in USDA growing zone 8a and 8b (depending on specific location).
