Just 13 minutes north of Redding you will find the town of Shasta Lake. The town is not situated on the lake itself but it is the closest town to the lake. The town was initially five different communities that were established during the construction of the dam. In the 1970's Redding took over as the larger of the two towns and remains so to this day.
